The short, honest version — because one person runs this and plain words beat boilerplate.
A podcast player with a live knowledge layer: while an episode plays, the people, places and ideas being discussed surface beside the audio, linked to Wikipedia and Wikidata. Podcasts are fetched from their public RSS feeds; audio streams from each show's own hosting. The shows belong to their creators — Gloss adds a layer beside them and sends listeners to the source.
Access is by invite link. The link is your key — keep it private; anyone holding it is you, as far as Gloss can tell. Invites you pass to friends are your responsibility. We can revoke access that's being abused.
Summaries and connections are machine-generated and can be wrong, mistimed, or incomplete. Treat them as a lively margin note, not a source of record — the Wikipedia links are there so you can check.
Gloss is early software run as a labour of love: it may break, lose data, change, or pause without notice, and comes with no warranty of any kind. We back things up and care a great deal, but this is not (yet) a paid service with an SLA.
Don't attack the service, scrape it dry, or use it to violate the rights of podcast creators. That's the whole list.
